I went shopping today and bought two dresses. The last time I bought a dress was… let’s see here… the summer of 2003? I think spending $40 every four and a half years is acceptable. These are fun party dresses that could also work if I am invited to a book premiere or gallery opening party, for example. I didn’t try sitting down in either of them so their usefulness is questionable for any kind of event that is not filled with standing around looking fabulous.

I am having a cocktail party in a couple weeks to celebrate a successful beginning to the New Year and I will wear a new dress as I “join other young urban intellectual professionals for a night of sophisticated pretension”, according to the invitation. Dress: cocktail attire.
