Baby quilt pictures

Friday, December 14th, 2007

The complete quilt is bigger than traditional baby quilt size, which I realized when I went to buy batting and the “crib size” was a bit too short on all sides.  It should fit in a crib if it’s folded or tucked under something.  Plus, it will still be useful on a little bed in a few years, or spread on the floor to provide a soft surface for doing whatever it is a baby does before it can even hold up its own head, or to warm the family snuggling on the couch.

I know that white isn’t the best fabric to use for the back of a baby quilt, since it will show the stains of use and quickly lose its crisp color, but I really wanted soft flannel dinosaurs and this material was the only option for immediate purchase.  (It was a race between me and the baby — who would be done first?)
Note to self: close bathroom door before taking pictures of future projects. Better yet, go outside during the day for natural light.

Baby quilt thank you card

Friday, December 14th, 2007

I received a handwritten thank you card today and it must have been dusty, I got a little something in my eye, just tearing up because of the dust, that’s all, nothing to see here folks… got a little something in my eye…

Apron #1

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I made an apron tonight using the excellent tutorial on this blog.  I’m going to make a few more with various embellishments and changes (ruffle at the bottom, small hand towel attached under the waistband, maybe a lacy purely decorative model…), so if anybody wants an apron, let me know.  I’m not sure what I would do with five of them.

Quilt number 3: for my aunt Sue

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Here is a picture of my third quilt, completed during the summer for my aunt Sue. It’s a smaller version of the one I made for my mom for Mother’s Day, incorporating pieces of my grandmother’s clothing. (Mom & Sue are sisters.) It has the same size blocks as my mom’s, except instead of 4×5, it’s 3×3. It’s a lap quilt size, ideal for reading or watching tv during the cold winter months. I hear there is such a thing as a cold winter month, anyway; the highs are still in the 90s around here.
